The chimney in my kitchen is subject to downdrafts.
Chimney downdrafts can sometimes occur when a chimney is too short for the roof; or when a chimney is located next to hills, buildings or large trees – like at my house.
Used to be, that when the wind would blow from the southwest at over 20 miles an hour, my entire kitchen would fill with thick smoke from the cook stove.
But that was years ago. The problem has been pretty much corrected except for on the windiest of days.
To correct a chimney downdraft a chimney cap is often needed.
Vacu-Stack makes a chimney cap with a design that increases wind speed around the chimney. When the wind blows through the cap it creates a partial vacuum.
The vacuum helps to pull the smoke and flue gases up and out of the chimney instead of blowing them down into the room. Which helps to keep smoke detectors from going off and doors and windows closed.
Chimney caps keep life pleasant.
