Brings back Precious Memories… In 1957-58, we lived in Maryland for a year, when my Dad was transferred to Baltimore for his work in an insurance company. He had a business trip to some Old Order Amish in Mechanicsburg [?], and he took us all along. I was seven -and it was an extraordinary trip, which, I found out later, was quite unusual, for the degree of ‘entry’ we were permitted. – a school [very like this one, only older!], a meat-packing business, a farm… -the Dear [and savvy]Amish may not have had electricity, or other modern conveniences, but they did have insurance -and oh, we encountered some lovely folks -and Memories to last a lifetime! -In fact, the other ‘family trip’ that stands out so vividly was just a few years later, to West Point. Recalling these two extraordinary trips, several years ago, and their ironic ‘pairing’, in my memory, for Beauty -yes, and Truth- still makes me wonder if they’re ‘in there, together’ …because of something about Grace -how each group has the other to ‘thank’ for being there. Hard to explain, but, a gifted choice, on the part of our dear parents, to bring us to each Dooryard… and Thank You for the photo!

Reminds me of the one room schools my parents attended back in West Virginia.

I am amazed at the whiteness of it all. White floors, oh my, with all those children’s feet.

      Jane -
Must be a difference in screen monitors. The entire room (floors too) is painted in a high gloss sky blue enamel paint :-)
